What is the difference between Independence Day and Republic Day in terms of flag hoisting?
First Difference
On August 15, on the occasion of Independence Day, the flag is pulled up from the bottom using a rope and then unfurled. This is called flag hoisting, as it is done to honor the historic event of August 15, 1947, when the Prime Minister performed such an action to commemorate the occasion. In the constitution, this is referred to as “Flag Hoisting“.
While,
On January 26, on the occasion of Republic Day, the flag remains tied up at the top and is then unfurled. In the constitution, this is referred to as “Flag Unfurling“.
Second Difference
On the day of August 15, the Prime Minister, who is the head of the central government, hoists the flag because on this day, the Indian Constitution was not yet enacted, and the President, who is the constitutional head of the nation, had not taken office. On this day, in the evening, the President delivers his message to the nation.
While,
On January 26, which is celebrated in honor of the enactment of the constitution in the country, the President, who is the constitutional head, unfurls the flag.
Third Difference
On Independence Day, the flag is hoisted at the Red Fort.
While,
On Republic Day, the flag is unfurled on Kartavya Path (Former Name – Rajpath).
Flag Hoisting is typically done on Independence Day (August 15th) in India.
Flag Unfurling is generally performed on Republic Day (January 26th) in India.
